Developing a place-based engagement platform to build trust and meaningfully engage with the local community

Back to Digital Planning Programme Case Studies

Lewes District Council aimed to address feedback from residents that they did not feel listened to and felt that change did not always ‘talk to them’. Through developing a comprehensive digital platform the pilot team sought to increase access information, facilitate meaningful civic engagement and build trust with the local community in relation to Newhaven’s regeneration and planning programme.

To do so, the council partnered with Commonplace to develop a place-based engagement platform for the seaside town of Newhaven, East Sussex. The website has features include an introductory animation video, interactive funding map and a live consultation on outdoor and recreational space.
