Using 3D models and data visualisation to reach a broader demographic

Back to Digital Planning Programme Case Studies

Wirral Council aimed to build on their experiences of using on-line consultation tools and expand on their recent success with using a digital 3D model and data visualisation to leverage public engagement. In doing so, the council aimed to extend consultation reach to a more representative age and socio economic demographic than previous consultations.

The council partnered with Digital Urban to further develop their 3D model and data visualisation in addition to gaining support from HLP Architects and BDP Architects. To maximise reach to the local community the council developed a thorough hybrid engagement strategy which used a variety of approaches. This included collaborating with local schools to run workshops around future plans for the local area – you can see a video showcasing these workshops where you can hear first hand from local school children.

In addition to this, the council ran virtual reality events which took technology out into the community and stakeholder, community outreach and business events all of which aimed to seek feedback on current and future plans.
