Developing a new portal to increase transparency in funding from Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL)

Back to Digital Planning Programme Case Studies

Watford Borough Council launched their Neighbourhood Grant Portal which allows local people the opportunity to apply for funding to address the impact of new development in the area. The funding has been generated from Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) receipts and the Commonplace platform has been designed to increase transparency around the allocation of developer contributions.

All applications were visible on a map, allowing residents to track project applications from submission through to completion. The platform also gave residents an opportunity to share any ideas they have on improving their local neighbourhoods which will be incorporated into the Council’s future strategies.
