Southend-on-Sea Borough Council

Outcome of Expression of Interest: Not shortlisted

We are currently working on building a data warehouse as part of our Smart City Intelligence Hub.  The data warehouse will enable us to consolidate and import data sets from various sources, internal and external.  We would then be able to apply advance analytics as well as predicative analytics and hopefully machine learning going forward.  As part of the data warehouse we are also looking at implementing an Open Data platform to make engagement with the public more transparent.  It also forms part of our transparency and transformation program in getting the council to work more efficiently in providing front-line services.

Discovery evidence

We have held various workshops with council staff, local businesses and have reached out to the residents through events in talking around the benefits of Open Data and making better use of the data we have.  We have discovered there is a definite need for an Open Data platform underpinned by a data warehouse.  We are currently looking at various Open Data platforms as well as Predictive analytics solutions, i.e Python, R, SQL etc.  We would like to link the data warehouse and our GIS software as well as Open Data platforms to give the residents a truly Smart City experience.  We would also as a council like to offer training for local residents around analytics and better use of data.
