Royal Borough of Kingston Upon Thames

SLWP is four London Boroughs (Croydon/Kingston/Merton/Sutton) working together to provide cost-effective waste management services for residents. Partnership working is the key for the future to increase efficiency and manage austerity but is hindered by boroughs using different software systems that don’t effectively communicate with each other. Two boroughs and the Contractor use Google whilst the other two use Microsoft, with Google a prohibited site so staff cannot access any shared Partnership files.

Live document amendments are essential for partnership working but having to download/email to parties who cannot access Google makes them immediately obsolete, introduces delay to resolution and increases data inaccuracies. Other document sharing systems have been used with success but they cannot manage amendments.

Lack of communication between Microsoft Outlook and Google Calendar causes considerable challenges managing the Partnership’s contracts.

Meetings at all management levels including Chief Executives are sent through Google Calendar but any changes are not reflected in Outlook calendars, resulting in staff wasting time travelling to cancelled or postponed meetings. Regional meetings of London Local Authorities has confirmed the same problem.

This Project seeks to solve these issues and would be extremely valuable nationally to  public bodies working in partnership.
