Kent County Council

Outcome of Expression of Interest: Not shortlisted

Kent County Council are working closely with Cantium Business Solutions to explore a variety of use cases and proof of concept projects based on IoT technology and infrastructure. We are also working to inform and education the wider council on the positive impact IoT can have in a wide range of areas. These include:

Utilising the Council estate to install a county wide LPWAN network covering 163 locations.

Improving our waste management process by utilising IoT smart bins with compactors to decrease collection frequency and improve intelligent collection route mapping. We are confident that this will help decrease the cost of service within Kent but also decrease the fuel usage and carbon emissions generated by as much as 70%.

The development of access to discharge solutions for patients to decrease bed blocking in hospitals. We are in discussions with a technology provider who can supply a fully customisable mobile device that would allow a high proportion of patients to be discharged pending the implementation of a full assessment and care plan saving over £640 per week per patient.

A discovery grant would allow Kent County Council to install a small number of LPWAN masts in strategic locations, creating a network upon which we can then undertake the proof of concept projects outlined above.
