Analysis for Strategic Decision Making

Over the past 6 years, Durham County Council (DCC) has led a superfast broadband development programme across 10 local authority areas.  The programme is at an important stage and plans for future intervention and investment are being developed.

This discovery would utilise council data, commercial data and statistical and geographical analysis tools in order to support decisions on future plans.  The principles developed in relation to this discovery would also be applied to other examples, such customer service development and digital channel migration.

Around 40% of customers who use the DCC website do so from a mobile device, and work will be carried out to assess mobile coverage through usage data from the DCC mobile phone contract. The results will be used to encourage providers to improve coverage, particularly in areas where high customer demand is identified.

Through this work, a range of analysis tools would be tested on real examples to look at how best to develop projects and services. The work will also support the procurement of council contracts, so that they can provide greater benefits and support for local communities, residents and businesses.
